The description field is greyed out.
The assistant is unavailable, and a message under the field gives the reason: a device not compatible with Apple Intelligence, Apple Intelligence turned off, the model still downloading, or a missing Claude key if Claude is the chosen engine. Meanwhile, the catalogue works: pick a template in the sidebar and adjust it by hand.
The assistant picked the wrong template.
Name the template in your sentence, as it appears in the catalogue. You can also open the right template from the sidebar, then ask the assistant for your changes: it keeps the open template.
The assistant ignored a dimension.
Check that the dimension has its unit: “80 mm”, not “80”. For a round object, say “diameter”. A value beyond the parameter’s range is brought back to the limit. Either way, correct it by hand in the inspector: it is instant.
The assistant asks me for dimensions instead of making the part.
That is intended. Forma never guesses the size of a store-bought item: a box “for my drawer” needs your measurements. Give them in a new message.
Do my descriptions go over the internet?
Not with the default engine: Apple’s model installed on your device works offline. They only leave if you choose Claude as the engine, or ask for a try with Claude. Even then, only the text and the part’s parameters are sent, to Anthropic, never a file.
How do I use Claude?
Two ways, your choice. With your Anthropic API key, choose “Claude, with your API key” as the engine in Settings › Intelligence. Or, on the Mac, add Forma as an MCP server to the Claude app for Mac, then describe the part in Claude.
My holes are too small and the screw won’t go through.
That is true of almost every printer. Print the calibration part and measure it: Forma calculates the difference, then enlarges every hole in the templates.
My lid sticks, or it is loose.
Your profile’s fit clearance does not suit your printer. Measure it with the calibration part, or adjust it by hand: larger if the lid sticks, smaller if it is loose.
Print time and weight differ from my slicer’s.
Forma estimates them with typical settings; your slicer knows your real settings, so trust it. For the weight, also check the material in your print profile.
A finding is blocking, but I still want to print.
You can: a printability finding never prevents export. Forma warns, you decide.
My slicer shows the part tiny, or huge.
A unit problem. Check the unit chosen in the export sheet: slicers almost always expect millimetres. Prefer 3MF, which carries its unit.
The part arrives lying down in my slicer.
Forma placed it on its suggested face, the one with the least overhang. To keep it as shown, choose “As displayed” in the export sheet.
How do I move a part from my Mac to my iPad?
Save it as a Forma document, send the file over AirDrop or iCloud Drive, then open it in Forma on the other device. Your print profile is shared from Settings › Printing, with “Share Profile”.
Where is my data kept?
On your device: your projects, their conversations and your profiles in the app, the Claude API key in the keychain. Forma syncs nothing and sends nothing to Rapinology.
